Be Perfect Today: Part XXX – 30-for-30: The Final Chapter

Keanu Reeves-Shane Falco-glory-lasts-forever2Today is the last day in the ‘Be Perfect Today’ blog series. I’m tired. For over 75 straight days, this 60-year old body has been absolutely perfect in not only the blogs (30 in 30 days) but the training, nutrition, and cardio. How did this come about? Like this…

My team was struggling mentally around 3 months ago. It was hard for them, as I’m sure it’s been hard for many of you. I initially started writing them daily texts every morning to ‘Be Perfect Today.’ I then felt that they needed a bit more of a ‘push’ – that little nudge that would help them achieve their best potential. So I said, “Look guys, I’ll do this with you. I won’t be the coach that sits on the sidelines telling you what to do. I’ll get in the game with you.” And I did. After a couple of weeks I had all of these daily quips, quotes, sayings, and stories that I’d written to them. I was like, “I need to blog this stuff to see if it’ll help others.”

I contacted Elaine Craig of Craig Productions and the Emerald Cup Championships and told her what I was going to do and she was in full support. Initially it was just supposed to be a couple to three blogs to share all of the stuff I’d written my team. But then it caught fire and suddenly I was writing a blog a day. It was actually supposed to go all the way through the Emerald Cup, but guys, I’m exhausted. Ya’ll will have to forgive The Brotha. Each of these blogs takes up to two hours to write, edit, find or make the right pics…and I’m just out of energy. Why am I out of energy? Well…seven days a week of cardio systematically increasing from 30 to 45 to 60 to 75 to 90, and now at 120 minutes (yes, that’s 2 hours) a day wears a 60-year old body out. Add to that the systematic cutting of starchy carbs to where I’m just at a 1/4 cup of oatmeal as the starchy carbs, with everything else being veggies and protein (don’t worry…I use MCT oils to keep calories high while keeping carbohydrates low – I kinda know a little about this, y’know…), and I’ve reached the point to where I’m saying, “I don’t wanna do this anymore…”, which, to me means that I’ve been on task. After 32 years of this and somewhere around 200 shows, I know the feeling I’m supposed to have. And like I wrote in a blog a couple of years ago, every prep, if done right, is like getting in the ring with Mike Tyson – over-n-over-n-over – and being pounded every single time. Being perfect does that to you.

The intent of this blog series was to get you to look within – to go to that personal sanctuary that only YOU can go to. No one can take you there. To make sure YOU could get there, I had to do it myself to justify each day writing the blog. How could I tell YOU to be perfect if I wasn’t? How could I ask YOU to do something I wasn’t willing to do myself? I don’t operate like that. I’ve never EVER told my team to do something that I didn’t do myself, or was unwilling to do.

I really don’t have any profound words to share with you today that hasn’t already been said. So I’ll leave you with some of my favorite pics, and my favorite video. Thanks for tuning in for the last month!  All I have left to say is…
